At Gremln, we spend a lot of time talking about, thinking about, and enjoying all the wonders of social media. While we often celebrate it’s benefit as a marketing, customer service, and brand-building tool — there are lots of other ways to take advantage of it. So, in the spirit of the holiday season, we’ve put together a list of the top five reasons we’re thankful for social media.
Social Media Keeps Us Connected
Social networks bring us together with friends, colleagues, and acquaintances we haven’t spoken to in years, family members who live far away, industry professionals we might not otherwise have an opportunity to communicate with. We can follow our favorite athletes, celebrities, musicians, artists, politicians, and brands to learn more about their talents, opinions, and products.
Social Media Keeps us Informed
We don’t need to be near a TV or radio to stay up on to-the-minute news. All we need is a smartphone and cell reception or a Wi-Fi connection, and we can be instantly clued in to what is going on all over the world. We’re not held to just a few journalistic sources, either – first-hand accounts from eyewitnesses, statements from politicians, opinions from pundits, and facts from any number of journalists allow us a well-rounded understanding of what’s happening in the world.
Social Media Makes Us Laugh
Whenever we’re feeling down, we know we can rely on social media to bring on a smile. Hilarious Sesame Street videos, ridiculous photos of animals in costumes/menswear/crazy positions, animated gifs, our favorite comedian’s Twitter feed… we can’t help but turn that frown upside down. Here are a few of our recent favorites:
Sesame Street’s The Hungry Games: Catching Fur
Histagrams: If Instagram had been around throughout history… oh, what might have been!
Doge: This meme never ceases to make us happy. Much laugh, many enjoy.
Social Media Is Multifaceted
Social media isn’t relegated to one activity or another – we can use it for all aspects of our lives. From finding a new recipe for Thanksgiving dinner, to cheering on our favorite football team, networking with other industry professionals, or sharing a hilariously adorable kitten video, we can enjoy and celebrate every aspect of our lives through social media. We use it for work, play, education, and entertainment – it truly captures all of our interests.
Social Media Captures Our Memories
This thanksgiving, we’re sure our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter feeds will be filled with photos of families, festive selfies, and, of course, food. We love that we can share these moments instantaneously – whether they’re our memories, or those of our nearest & dearest. Thanks to social media, we can look back at photos & posts we’ve shared throughout the years to relive everyday moments and major life events.
One more reason we love social media? It’s what brought you here! We are so thankful for all our readers and Gremln users, fans, and supporters. We wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!
